PLASTIC WASTE

Over the last few years, plastic waste has surged into the spotlight as an urgent crisis impacting oceans, wildlife, and even our own health. Research from multiple global sources highlights that despite increased awareness, plastic production is still rising - set to triple by 2060 if current trends continue.

Shockingly, over 450 million tonnes of plastic is produced annually, with only 9% ever being recycled. The rest ends up in landfills, rivers, and oceans, where it breaks down into harmful microplastics that infiltrate ecosystems, threaten marine life, and make their way up the food chain to us.

Studies report that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in our oceans by weight. Beyond polluting our water sources, this waste releases toxic chemicals and greenhouse gases. Countries worldwide are working to combat the issue through sustainable packaging alternatives, plastic bans and recycling innovations - a major solution being pyrolysis. Every litre of pyrolysis oil produced means plastic is removed from the environment and enters circular economy.
